JULY IN PERTH
Rainfall: July rainfall in Perth this year was well below average, though there were more than the normal number of rain days. The city received 119.8 millimetres over 20 days compared with the average of 173mm over 18 days. The heaviest daily rainfall this month was 18.2mm on the 19th, which was the lowest extreme daily rainfall in July for 31 years since 17.5mm fell on 3 July 1971. Historically, July rainfall has ranged from a low of 61.5mm in 1876 to Perth's second wettest month on record with 425.1mm in 1958. Total rainfall for the seven-month period ending 31 July was 499.2mm, below the average of 565mm.
Maximum temperatures: The mean daily maximum temperature for Perth in July of 18.7 degrees Celsius was near the average of 18 degrees. Daily maxima ranged from a cold 14.5 degrees on the 12th to a warm 24.5 degrees on the 17th. Perth experienced two cold day this month, when maximum temperatures were below 15 degrees. The long-term average is four days.
Minimum temperatures: The mean daily minimum temperature for Perth in July of 9.3 degrees was above the average of 8 degrees. Daily minima ranged from a cold 0.9 degrees on the 28th to a mild 13.8 degrees on the 4th. Perth recorded four cold nights in July when the temperature was 5 degrees or less, fewer than the long-term average of seven nights.
